David Lloyd Joining Fees Explained
Last updated: September 2026
The first cost of David Lloyd membership is not always the same as the advertised monthly price. Depending on the club and promotion, new members can pay a joining fee, the first month of membership and a pro-rata amount. Knowing the complete first-payment figure helps you compare offers accurately.
How much is a joining fee?
Joining fees differ by club, package, household and promotional period. A sensible planning range is around £39 to £125+, although premium clubs can quote more and selected promotions can reduce or remove it. There is no guaranteed national joining-fee figure, so always request the amount in writing before you agree to a membership.
Compare total cost, not headline cost. A lower monthly rate can still create a larger first payment if the joining fee is high. A slightly higher monthly rate may offer better first-term value if the joining fee is removed.
What your first payment can contain
- A one-off joining fee.
- The first monthly membership payment.
- A pro-rata payment if you start between normal billing dates.
- Charges related to adding a partner or children.
- Any applicable promotional adjustment.
Ask the membership adviser to write every item down. This protects you from comparing a monthly figure on one quote with an all-in first payment on another.
How to assess a joining offer
Look at the full initial term. First, add the joining fee and first payment. Next, calculate the regular monthly payments until the end of the 3- or 12-month initial term. Finally, check the facilities included. An offer only represents a saving if it improves the full package you genuinely need. It is not a bargain if it places you on an off-peak package when you need evening access.
Read the membership offers guide and compare package prices.
